inMotion Marks 40 Years of Story-Telling

It’s 1980. The mullet is turning heads. Bob and Doug McKenzie are introducing the world to hoser culture. Disco rules. And the Ottawa video production company inMotion is opening its doors for the first time.

The mullet, the McKenzies and disco have faded into the mists of time, but inMotion continues to prosper. Which doesn’t mean it hasn’t changed with the times. In early days it focused exclusively on video. Today, it’s a digital and video marketing agency offering clients branding, marketing strategies, national ad campaigns, full-featured websites and of course videos.

inMotion moves into its future—and Ottawa’s past

It’s 1960, and you can’t miss Ottawa’s coolest new building—its big sign spells out “CIVIC” in multi-coloured, revolving letters at the corner of Holland and Carling. Fast forward to January 2021. The sign’s still there—though it hasn’t revolved for years—and marketing company inMotion is moving in. “To be in this historic building on inMotion’s 40th anniversary is exciting,” says President Jamie McIntosh. “We’ll have room to grow and be in a more central location for our clients.”

inMotion’s marks 40 years anniversary celebration was planned for April—and then came COVID. “We needed to focus all our energy on helping our clients get through a confusing and difficult time,” McIntosh says. “The party will have to wait until 2021.”

Key to inMotion’s long-term success is its decision to specialize in four sectors: associations, medical and health, technology, and agriculture.

“Working with many clients in these sectors has taught us things you can’t learn any other way,” says inMotion President Jamie McIntosh. “You come to understand your clients’ audiences and challenges, what marketing tactics will and won’t work for them, and how to get a big impact out of a limited budget.”
